Hello!
If your district is grappling with the familiar hurdles of staff shortages, rising expenses, and logistical challenges tied to meal programs, it may be time to consider an alternative to traditional congregate feeding sites. Student Summer Box Meals brings healthy, reliable meals to children during school breaks.
This program is funded through federal reimbursements and is no extra cost to your district

Turnkey Meals. Real Impact.
From production to delivery - We handle it all!

Meal Box Program Overview
These meal boxes are available to all school-age children, regardless of income or eligibility status. Each box contains seven complete, ready-to-eat meals and a gallon of milk, providing consistent nutrition even when school is out.

Participation Benefits Everyone
When families take part, it strengthens the entire school nutrition program. Increased participation drives up USDA Commodity Foods allocations, boosts federal reimbursements, and helps fund your lunch program overall—a true win-win for kids and schools alike.

Safe, Reliable, and Fully Managed
Fully Managed Most schools lack the storage space, equipment, or food-safety certifications required to prepare and distribute these boxes in-house. Vermont Blue Sky Packing eliminates those barriers. Our refrigerated warehouse and fleet of refrigerated trucks ensure every meal stays fresh from packing through delivery. We handle every step—from production and loading to parent pickup—so your staff doesn’t have to.

Customizable for Your Community
Each district can design its own approach: morning or evening pickups, weekday or Saturday sites—whatever best fits your families’ schedules. We adapt our routes and staffing to align with your needs.

Partnering with Blue Sky as
a Self-Op
Expertise you can count on, meals kids can count on
Not only are you feeding your community — you’re strengthening your program. Participation in the meal box program supports both students and your food service operation. Higher participation increases USDA Commodity allocations and generates additional revenue that can be reinvested to improve your program’s overall quality, equipment, and offerings.
With years of proven experience in school nutrition, Vermont Blue Sky Packing delivers the professionalism and reliability districts can count on. And because you operate independently, you retain full autonomy — we simply serve as a short-term subcontract partner you can turn on or off as needed.
Self-operated districts contract directly with Vermont Blue Sky Packing under a Meal Vendor model, allowing your program to retain the majority of the federal reimbursement while gaining all the benefits of a fully managed, compliant meal distribution service.

Formula (Self-Op):
Federal Reimbursement per Meal: USDA rates for breakfast and lunch.
Blue Sky Cost per Meal: Flat fee based on box/meal production and delivery.
Net to District: Reimbursement minus cost = direct funds retained by your district.
Procurement-Ready Vendor
(for “Three Bids and a Buy” consideration)
Vermont Blue Sky Packing is a qualified meal vendor providing pre-packaged, ready-to-eat meals that meet all USDA meal pattern and food safety requirements. We operate strictly as a vendor, not as a food service management company, and therefore all purchases are considered food purchases, not management services.
Districts that operate their own nutrition programs (self-operated) may procure our meal boxes using the “three bids and a buy” process in accordance with 2 CFR 200.320 and 7 CFR 210.21. This process requires schools to obtain at least three written or verbal quotes from qualified vendors, document those quotes, and make a selection based on price, quality, and service.
Our Administrative team will handle all your needs.
Because the district retains full control over menu approval, meal counts, claiming, and reimbursement, and Vermont Blue Sky Packing provides only meal production and delivery, this arrangement fully qualifies as a vended meal purchase under USDA regulations.
All meals are produced in a licensed, inspected facility that meets or exceeds federal and state food safety standards. Vermont Blue Sky Packing provides all required production records, meal component documentation, CN labels, and nutritional statements to support program compliance and audit readiness.
